MRO business will add to workforce as part of airline group’s expansion strategy.

Germany’s Lufthansa airline group plans to recruit more than 8,000 new employees this year across the business — a move that will result in 500 new staff joining its Lufthansa Technik division.

In a statement released on Jan. 8, Lufthansa confirmed the recruitment drive will encompass new staff joining the maintenance business across “at various locations.”

When contacted by MRO-Network, a Lufthansa Technik spokesperson confirmed the 500 new positions included the German facilities and subsidiaries of LHT Group.

"We currently see the major part of demand in the engines and maintenance business fields at different places in Germany," they said.

They cited two examples of Lufthansa Technik businesses looking to for additional staff in XEOS, its Poland-based engine joint venture with GE Aviation, and its Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico business established in 2015.

As of December 2017, Lufthansa Technik had more than 25,000 employees across all of its global businesses in Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific and Latin America.

On a wider scale, Lufthansa Group says the majority of new recruits totalling 4,000 will be flight attendants working at its various carriers.

Around 2,500 of these roles are earmarked by Lufthansa for its hubs in Frankfurt and Munich.
